It's the little things

Little things that make us smile #6~
When all the socks from the dryer match up perfectly

Ha!  This NEVER happens to me.  I swear there is a sock eating monster in our dryer :(  ...or maybe it's just two three boys who can't seem to hit their hampers very well!

After finally getting caught up on ALL of the laundry, I seem to still have a pile of mismatched socks.

Little things that make us smile #4~
The shampoo head massage you get at the hairdresser

Close your eyes, dip your head in the sink, and relax as the warm spray hits your head.  Then just smile softly as the hairdresser tenderly rubs and massages your scalp with shampoo and conditioner.  Relax, unwind and enjoy!

Ah, ha!  It's my haircut week :)  Can't wait for this!

It's the little things

Mondays can sometimes be a drag.  It's the start of the work week and getting back into the grind. However, I'm choosing to look at Mondays with a more positive attitude this year.  During my book club's annual holiday book exchange, I received The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha.  This book focuses on the little things in life that make people happy. In the spirit of a positive attitude to start the week, let's focus on life's little moments that make us smile.  Each Monday I'll share with you one idea from Neil's book. They are short and sweet and should make you smile! Feel free to share your ideas in the comments section.

Little things that make us smile #3~
Finally remembering a word that's been on the tip of your tongue for so long

It's like throwing a pail of cold water on all your smoking inner head parts.  Gears unjam, lines start rolling, and you settle back into your seat with a satisfied look on your face while you just blurt it out.

This seems to be happening to me more and more.  The "forgetting" part, not the remembering part.  My "sometimers" must be kicking into high gear :(

Ringing in 2012

Saying good-bye to 2011 was something we did from Minneapolis this year. As part of the boys' Christmas they received tickets to the Vikings v. Bears game on New Year's Day. Aaron and I had decided that we would like to head up a couple days early to finally use the Science Museum tickets I purchased at the elementary carnival last April.  YIKES!  It's hard to find a free weekend in our lives that we can actually get away.  Maybe I should remember that this spring when I'm a bidding fool at the carnival.

We made sure we arrived at our hotel in enough time that we could set up our very own little "tailgate" spread in our hotel room to watch ISU play participate in their bowl game.  Hmmm...not a happy ending.  However, the boys got over it pretty quickly as they headed down to the pool and were able to swim until their little hearts were content. We had a great time just hanging out at the hotel playing games and watching bowl games.

We headed out the next morning to the Museum of Science and Industry. This is right up all 3 of my guys' alleys.  They were in science heaven!  I'm not sure any of the three could tell you what was their favorite thing...the musical steps, the wave maker, the mummy, the pulley system, the omnitheater, who knows!  I just know they completely LOVE anything interactive ~ all of them.  It was pretty cool for Austin to experience some things with earthquakes and volcanoes that he had just studied about in school.

I have no idea how Austin managed to do this, but he sure thought it was pretty darn cool!  I had shimmied off to find a nice place to sit for a spell while the guys were still exploring.

Of course we also had to head to the Mall of America.  Now, I would have preferred the shopping side of it, but the boys of course were all over the rides.  They had so much fun and got braver and braver as the night when on.  Carter thought it was pretty cool that one of his football coaches from last year was there with his son too.  I just laugh because we drive hundreds of miles from home and still run into someone from Ames!

Amazingly enough, we only had to wait about 10 minutes to eat at the Rainforest Cafe.  The boys didn't actually mind having to wait for their food because there is so much to look at.  We even caved and had a brownie volcano.  Oh yummy!

The boys were determined to ring in 2012 that night.  Thankfully the ball in New York drops at 11:00 and that seemed to satisfy them as we had had quite a full day and were pretty wiped out.  Before we knew it, it was time to be up and at 'em so we could head to the game.

The boys were thrilled with a Bears' victory and had an absolute blast experiencing a professional football game.  The entire game day presentation and atmosphere is quite an experience.  I'm so thankful that Aaron and I were able to provide this opportunity for our kids as I know it was a great memory making time for our family.

Little things that make us smile #2~ (in honor of my birthday today)
Licking the batter off the beaters

You just can't do it without making a mess because there's that hard to reach place in the middle of a beater.  Your tongue may or may not reach it, but leaving it there just isn't an option.  So, go ahead and lick the beaters and enjoy every delicious moment.

Maybe I need to make myself a cake after school :)

Update

In the words of my precious friend in regards to her treatment...

Praise God!  Herceptin given and no side effects at this point. God is a giver of miracles.  Please thank him today for all that he has done.

This is such a blessing and it truly is one of God's miracles that she did so well with this treatment.  Thank you to those of you who helped to storm Heaven on Arlyce's behalf.

Storm Heaven please

My friend, Arlyce, is in need of as many prayer warriors to storm Heaven for her starting now and continuing through tomorrow.  Her words from her caringbridge...

Fear.  Dictionary.com says fear is a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc.  Why does this fear have such a hold on us? On me.  I have been struggling a lot with the fear of what is going to happen to me on Friday (tomorrow).

You see, I will be going in and getting the herceptin treatment.  This is the drug that they believe that I am allergic to.  This is also the drug that I am supposed to be on until next August.  This is the drug that has allowed survival for her2 breast cancer patients.  This is the reason that I'm going to try to take again tomorrow.

The side effects could be deadly.  At this point, the side effects that I have had from the drug are a burning and itching rash and a thickened tongue.  I am asking for prayers that there will be "no" side effects and that all praise and honor go to God who is the provider of all things.

I will start out in Bliss at 7:30 a.m..  I have radiation at 8:00 and then will see Dr. Prow.  We will discuss what drugs that they will front load me with to keep down the side effects.  Dave and I will be at the Bliss Center all day long.  That night we will have someone coming in to watch me while I sleep to make sure that I don't quit breathing or if my throat swells up.

So, now is the time to join together and pray.  I am asking that you pray for me from the moment that you receive this message  through tomorrow.  Please walk with me (not literally) and ask Christ to be by my side.

I ask you please to join me and so many others in lifting her up in prayer.

Little things that make us smile #1~
Popping Bubble Wrap

There's something quite enjoyable about popping bubble wrap no matter how old you are.  It's a satisfying stress reliever, a fun surprise, and a rare little moment for adults to act like a kid again.

Now, if I could just find some bubble wrap!
